Corifeu de Azevedo Marques

Corifeu de Azevedo Marques was a Brazilian journalist of the first half of the 20th century, and an important activist and leader of the Communist Party of Brazil. In the 1930s, Corifeu was elected to the PCB Political Bureau during the National Conference held in January 1934.
Born: 20 May 1907
Died: 29 August 1965

He developed a career as a broadcaster at O Grande Jornal Falado Tupi, as well as worked on Rádio Tupi, Diários Associados and Rádio Difusora.
In the last years of his career, he gained respect throughout Brazil for his involvement with the municipalist movement and, mainly, for the deep and analysed comments he made in the Great Newspaper Falado Tupi and matutino Tupi. His comments were insightful, short and, at the same time, profound, all made impromptu.
In his honor, his name was used to baptize Avenida Corifeu de Azevedo Marques, in the neighborhood of Butantã, São Paulo.
